WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY

CENTER FOR GLOBAL EDUCATION

Media & Marketing Student Coordinator for International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS)

I worked as the Media & Marketing Student Coordinator at from June 2016 till mid-December 2018.  This job gave me the platform to explore all my skillsets and enhance them to utilize them at work. I enjoyed every moment of learning and growing while working here. When I was offered this position, I was given the responsibility to help grow the social media presence of this page. Before I started, ISSS only had a Facebook page that was inconsistent in posts, and the content wasn't original or memorable.

Together with the ISSS Director, Kemale, we worked on rebranding the Facebook account and giving it a brand voice which is professional for all our audiences. Our audiences include:

  • Potential Intakes: To recruit and help them throughout the application process to WSU

  • Incoming Students: To help them prepare for their transition from home to Winona

  • Current Students: To keep them informed and updated on current events happening around campus

  • Parents of Students: To highlight student success and keep them in the loop of what is happening in WSU

Throughout my 2.5 years in this position, I created social media content, wrote copy for the website and recruitment marketing materials, edited and produced numerous videos highlighting WSU students and the community, as well as create and executed email marketing campaigns for recruitment. As I leave this position to look for new opportunities, the ISSS now owns a consistently updated Facebook page, a YouTube channel with original content, an Instagram account highlighting students, as well as a MailChimp account that serves as an email marketing platform for recruitment.

Below you will find a more comprehensive list of what I did and samples of my work throughout my time working as the Media & Marketing Student Coordinator.

Created social media content targeted to achieve the goal of increasing engagement with the channel's audiences.

During my tenure in this position, I increased the social media following on Facebook by 35% making it 1500 followers as of December 2018. I also achieved an increase of 10% in engagement level between the account and the audiences.

I managed to gained an all time high of organic reach on the platform in February 2018 at 5,456 impressions for a post I created.

I also created a YouTube channel and Instagram account for the office. All images posted on Instagram were taken and created by me, and most of the content on the YouTube channel was edited and uploaded by me.

VIDEO EDITING & PRODUCTION

Directed, edited, created and produced video content to highlight WSU students' success

I've created many videos that highlight the graduating student's success and how they achieved it, as well as promotional videos that focus on the programs offered by WSU and how international students are achieving success in that program.

Besides that, I was also given the opportunity to spread positivity within the community and beyond in April 2017. My supervisor approached me with the idea of participating in the viral #YouAreWelcomeHere project. She gave me full reigns to take ownership of the project, and I worked with the University's Marketing & Communications team to figure out the elements that would best represent how welcoming our community is. I wrote the script, cast all individuals involved in the video, shot all the footage, edited and produced the video myself. This video has garnered over  2,300+ views on YouTube and nearly 21K views on Facebook

DESIGN & CONTENT CREATION

Created all event posters and graphics to highlight news on social media and within the community

Using Adobe programs like InDesign and Photoshop, as well as Canva, I designed and created the majority of content posted on social media.

Some of the content included infographics to aid incoming students as they embark on their journey to college, and simple images to remind them about important deadlines.

I also had the opportunity to design posters for major events hosted by the University like the International Women's Day Luncheon, International Coffee Hour, and International Education Week each year.
